Getting out in nature has been absolutely crucial for our fam during this wild season. It's the time for us to release energy, to breathe, and to take in the ever changing surroundings as Spring turns to Summer. We've been able to notice these changes like never before- one perk of living a little slower during this time!
The North Shore is filled with so many amazing hikes, but for those of us taking young kids along, the steep cliffs, long trails, and rugged terrain can feel bit little daunting. We've discovered a few hikes that are shorter and less challenging- but still super beautiful! Here's a few ideas for family friendly hikes near the North Shore: Demonstration Forest: We LOVE this place! Situated a few miles outside of Two Harbors, Demonstration Forest has trails, a small picnic area, and bathrooms (out-house style, of course!). One loop in particular, The Knife River loop is less than a mile long, and follows a river for a portion of it. I'd recommend going in the springtime while the river is flowing, but any season is beautiful. Pack a lunch and make an afternoon of it! Knife River Hiking Trail: A family fave. This trail is located between Duluth and Two Harbors and is the perfect spot for a quick hike with an easy trail that follows the river. Beautiful running water in the spring, and lots of berries in the summer! Bagley Nature Area: My kiddos and I have headed to this wonderful place every week this spring. I love that there are lots of shorter trails, and a shallow pond that is just the perfect size to make our way around. My children have loved seeing the pond change, welcoming in minnows, turtles, tadpoles, and so much new life as Spring turns to Summer. Bagley is a great scenic spot right in Duluth. It is apart of UMD, so you may need to pay for parking depending on when you go! There's a few family hike ideas for you. I'd love to hear where your fam loves to get out and explore together!
